3) The North Highland Group
Perennial Best Firms to Work For powerhouse North Highland has done it again. For the sixth year in a row, the employee-owned, Atlanta-based firm has been near the top of our list. In fact, the firm has been ranked among the Top 4 firm every single year.
"Being named one of the Best Firms to Work For, for six consecutive years, has definitely had an impact on the firm," says CEO Dan Reardon. "Internally, it reinforces what we know to be true, that our culture is one of the keys to our success, and externally the recognition helps to attract and retain high-caliber consultants."
The entire leadership team takes the stewardship of a culture of employee ownership very seriously, Reardon says. "Employee ownership and transparency with our employee-owners make a big difference in our morale," Reardon says. "When all employees are included in the up side financially, they are motivated to do the right thing for their clients and each other. This past year has been very exciting, and we have a number of key strategic initiatives."
Among those initiatives, Reardon says, is the launching of two new divisions—Enfathom, a business intelligence and analytics solution; and Sparks Grove, a strategic marketing agency that offers clients marketing consulting services.
In addition, the firm also has opened two new offices in the U.S. in Boston and Chicago. "We are doing some very innovative work for our clients—things that I don't see other consultancies doing—some very cool projects for some of the most recognizable brands in the world," he says. "I'm also excited about the continued growth of our business, particularly in our new markets of Boston and Chicago, as well as in industries like healthcare, life sciences, financial services and retail."
With its employee feedback, North Highland continues to excel. On this year's survey, North Highland scored higher than every other firm in Work/Life Balance.
"Consulting is hard work so we want you to enjoy your down time. We want you to have dinner with your family. We want you to really take your vacation. We want you to have time to give back to your community," Reardon says. "And if you have a family issue that needs your time, there's nowhere else we think you should be. A lot of companies talk about work/life balance, but here, we mean it."
Q&A: What is unique about your firm?
Dan Reardon, CEO of North Highland, says: "There are three things that I hear over and over again when I talk with clients: First, they tell us they believe they are making a smarter investment when they work with North Highland—that we bring a thorough understanding of their business and a proven record of enabling great returns on their investment. And the fact that we guarantee our work provides a level of assurance they don't find in other places. Second, our clients are confident that they are working with high caliber consultants that bring experience, expertise and stay focused on client success, not on the consultancy's next revenue target. Finally, our clients tell us they love working with us.
