11) Booz Allen Hamilton
Best Firms to Work For mainstay Booz Allen Hamilton is back again this year. However, this time around the firm has a brand new initiative and focus since it relaunched its commercial and international markets business last year. A move that, no doubt, helped contribute to the energy and enthusiasm the firm has experienced of late.
"We launched a focused strategy to grow beyond our core U.S. federal government market, expanding into commercial and international markets, says Horacio Rozanski, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Booz Allen.
He says in the commercial sector, the firm is focusing on serving companies in the financial services, healthcare, and energy industries where it sees strong intersections between the public and private sectors. Internationally, Booz Allen is focused on the Middle East.
"To serve our expansion we've opened offices in New York and the Mideast. In Abu Dhabi we will soon move to a larger office in the Etihad Towers. We are already developing a strong pipeline of business in these geographic and market areas, and have great expectations for the future," Rozanski says. "Re-entering the commercial and international markets has provided us with new opportunities and aligns with the firm's strategic growth agenda."
Meanwhile, the success on the Best Firms survey, Rozanski says, mirrors the results the firm often sees on its own internal surveys. In those surveys, 90 percent of employees say they are proud to work for Booz Allen and just as many would recommend the firm as a place to work. Meanwhile, 91 percent believe they are treated with respect as an individual and the same percentage say the firm creates an environment where people of all backgrounds can succeed.
Still, the external recognition is important, Rozanski says.
"We have built our firm with the goal of excelling in how we serve clients, support employees, contribute to our communities and provide a return for our investors. External Best Firm recognitions validate our ongoing efforts to focus on these foundational objectives," he says.
"For staff, new hires, and in particular our veterans, women, working mothers, African American employees, Latin American employees, LGBT employees, the Best Firm to Work For award affirms that joining Booz Allen was the right choice. For me personally, and I know I speak for other leaders of the firm, it's a point of great pride to be a part of an organization that has these high standards and is recognized publicly for them."
Q&A: What's your top priority over the next 12 months?
Horacio Rozanski, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, says: "The current business environment for government contractors—and many businesses across the country—is very uncertain in the coming months, given the unknowns of the presidential election, the potential for government spending cuts, tax rate changes and the economy in general. We have the most seasoned management team in the industry, a nearly century-long track record of succeeding under any market condition, and a penchant for shaping our own destiny. We intend to get out in front in these uncertain times. We believe the key to success in this period will be connection to our employees—keeping them informed, and helping them understand the conditions we're facing and the strategy we're taking."
