It's official: Bain & Company has scored a Perfect 10 on our annual Best Firms to Work For survey. For ten consecutive years, the firm has managed to outperform every other firm in the profession on our survey. When it comes to employee satisfaction, there simply is no better consulting firm to work for than Bain.

"We say it feels different to work at Bain and to have this validated by our staff, for 10 consecutive years, is a source of immense pride for us," says Russ Hagey, Chief Talent Officer at Bain. "This survey is truly the voice of our people, as results are based on how employees describe their experience at Bain. We continue to be a very attractive place to work, but along with the celebration comes a deep motivation to continue to evolve, innovate and deliver exceptional results for our clients and compelling careers for our people."

Meanwhile, Hagey says clients tell Bain over and over again that the key reason they like to work with the firm is the people. "We work hard to select exceptional individuals to join our team, create an environment where they can write their own personal results stories and have a remarkably energizing and fun experience and lifetime affiliation," he says. "You can feel the energy throughout our offices and in all that we do."

A big part of that, of course, has to do with financial performance and Dave Johnson, a Partner in the Boston office and the Regional Managing Director of The Americas, says he expects "to end 2012 at an all-time high" in terms of top line revenue, and he expects the firm to continue on a steady growth trajectory despite the challenging economic environment in Europe and slowdowns around the world.

In the Americas, he points to the new office set to open in Washington, D.C. and the firm's continued pro-bono efforts in U.S. Education and global development. Meanwhile, South America, Central America, Mexico and developing markets around the world also provide "significant growth markets for Bain and have provided our consultants some great transfer opportunities."

Bain Headquarters In fact, approximately 20 percent or more employees are on a global transfer to one of Bain's 49 global offices at any point in time, Hagey says. In addition, externship programs—six-month working engagements at a company, start up, or non-profit of the consultant's choice, after which they return to Bain—allow employees "to gain invaluable insights, experience and professional development," Hagey says. And Diversity/Affinity Groups, which include women, blacks, Latinos, LGBT, and military veterans, are a source of energy and pride within the firm, he says.

But Bain's commitment to its people certainly doesn't stop there. Hagey is quick to point out other programs that influence the culture at the firm, such as one called "Inspire, Teach, and Learn."

"These three words capture our philosophy," Hagey says. "We acknowledge and celebrate those who are exceptional coaches and mentors and invest to develop that capability in all of our team members as part of building exceptional general management skills."
