For the second year in a row, the Minnetonka, Minn.-based Marshall-Teichert Group lands a spot in the top half of our Best Small Firms to Work For ranking. The operations management firm, which mainly focuses on the oil and gas industry, grew its headcount from 40 to 75 this year, yet maintained solid survey scores. No easy feet any year, but particularly in this economy.
"Given that we have experienced a tough 12 months, this is a remarkable and great honor," says James Trice, Chairman and CEO of the Marshall-Teichert Group. "While profits are up for many of our clients, revenues (especially when adjusted for commodity prices) remain pale for most. We find most of our clients and prospects in the oil and gas industry remain highly focused on keeping discretionary expenses down, and that includes investments in consulting services, too."
Yet, despite all of that, MTG's employees continue to praise the firm's Culture, Leadership and Work/Life Balance. Trice outlines the firm's commitment to each in a series of "quality of life statements," such as "we strive to balance our professional and personal life; we embrace work with a sense of adventure, we respect each other's down time, vacation, weekends and holidays."
This extends to MTG's TEAM (together each accomplishes more) concept, according to Trice. "We value team members that are willing to do whatever needs to be done," he says. "We are quick to share knowledge and give credit. We value team members that are able to work in diverse environments, are 'thick skinned' and do not take themselves too seriously."
Apparently, the approach is working.
