For Nigel Zelcer, partner and co-founder of Jabian Consulting, an IT firm in Atlanta, the external recognition that comes from being a Best Small Firm to Work For is secondary to what it means to his own employees and clients.
"Being recognized by Consulting magazine, shows that our consultants are committed to making Jabian Consulting a fun, dynamic, and rewarding place to work. In addition to having their professional fingerprints on every element of Jabian Consulting, our employees get a sense of accomplishment for being recognized for their performance against top peers," Zelcer says. "Our clients benefit from the high employee morale, extremely low employee turnover, and the continual improvement work environment required to motivate our extremely talented consultants."
Zelcer says culture is a key component to building a high performance organization. Good news, then, that Jabian scored highest (4.67 out of a possible 5.0) in the Culture category of the survey. A close second was The Job at 4.60. "With a culture that empowers its employees to direct their futures and wake up every day being excited about their careers, it is not a great surprise that these areas scored highest," Zelcer says. "We work hard at focusing our attention in these areas and it seems
to be a strategy that works. We believe a self-empowered culture and continuous employee development creates the most satisfying career."
As far as the future, Zelcer says cost-saving solutions will still be the order of the day for clients. "Areas like operation excellence and technology execution are in big demand," he says. "In addition, we expect high growth in our business strategy, customer interaction and technology
optimization market offerings."
