Punit Renjen Deloitte Consulting continues its rapid rise up the Best Firms to Work For ranking, finishing four spots above last year. Once again this year, Deloitte, is the largest of the highly-ranked firms. The combined billable consultants of the Top 5 firms don't match Deloitte's size.

All that adds up to a very impressive showing. "Deloitte Consulting's recognition as a Best Firm to Work For reflects my own passion for this wonderful practice and a testament to the quality of practitioners who choose Deloitte to build their career and serve our clients," says Punit Renjen, who is just about to finish his first year as chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting. "Moreover, this recognition highlights Deloitte's commitment to attracting, nurturing, developing and, very importantly, retaining that caliber of talent."

Renjen says the Best Firms award is particularly affirming because it is a direct result of employee feedback. "It represents a very important opportunity for them to voice their opinion, in a visible and compelling way, about their experience at Deloitte," he says.

One of the reasons for Deloitte's surge in the rankings in recent years could be due, in part, to its employee development programs. The firm defines career along multiple paths and destinations, and all of the talent programs are designed to differentiate around the priorities of the practitioner, Renjen says. Specific initiatives include a year-long onboarding program and the firm's Mass Career Customization approach.

"Overall, our leadership and talent teams work together to deliver programs and provide support that build and deliver the best talent to the market and create enriching and nurturing experiences," Renjen says. "Through this approach, practitioners have the opportunity to find their passion, build their expertise, develop their leadership capabilities and build their marketplace eminence. The skills acquired here will impact a career over a lifetime, accelerating development and setting an individual up for success whether he or she stays at Deloitte or becomes a valued member of our alumni network."

Renjen likes to say that Deloitte Consulting is in a category of one—the only professional services organization that offers a full breadth of consulting and advisory disciplines, including strategy and operations, human capital, technology, financial advisory, and risk. "We are unique in that we have the ability to implement the strategy we give," he says. "This is what makes Deloitte Consulting unique and unlike any other firm in world—and the model for the new type of management consulting."

On the survey, Deloitte Consulting excelled in the areas of Culture and The Job. We asked Punit Renjen, chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting, why he thought the firm scored so high in these areas.

Culture
It is especially gratifying to see our "culture" called out by our practitioners because I believe that is our most distinguishing feature. We have a common set of core beliefs that define who we are. It is a powerful bond among our colleagues and alumni who leave to become leaders in the industries we serve. We expect a lot from our practitioners and they expect a lot from Deloitte, in turn—as they should. These are some hallmarks of our culture. We are a flat, transparent organization in which we value each others' opinions, value diversity and are accountable to each other and to ourselves. We value our partner/directorship, which reinforces collaboration, trust and respect.

The Job
The quality of our engagements reflects the quality of our clients. We have two No.1 priorities: clients and people. They are inextricably linked. The best clients attract the best talent and vice versa. We build relationships with the world's leading organizations and help them with their most complex and important challenges and opportunities.
