• Navigant Consulting's net income increased $1 million year over year to $6 million for first quarter 2010. Revenue before reimbursements for first quarter 2010 was $154 million compared to $153 million for fourth quarter 2009 and $167 million for first quarter 2009. Utilization was 77 percent for first quarter 2010, compared to 76 percent for the fourth quarter 2009 and 75 percent year over year. Average bill rate improved in first quarter 2010 to $264, up from $260 in fourth quarter 2009 and $252 in first quarter 2009. Average
billable full time equivalents were essentially flat from fourth quarter 2009 to first quarter 2010, but down 13 percent from first quarter 2009. Total revenues for the year are still expected to range from $700 million to $750 million.
• Accenture reported financial results for the quarter that ended Feb. 28, 2010, with net revenues of $5.18 billion, a decrease of 2 percent in U.S. dollars and 8 percent in local currency from the same period in 2009. Consulting net revenues for the quarter were $2.93 billion, a decrease of 3 percent in U.S. dollars. Outsourcing net revenues were $2.24 billion, flat in U.S. dollars and a decrease of 6 percent in local currency from fiscal 2009. New bookings in consulting totaled $3.4 billion, or 52 percent. Utilization for the quarter was 88 percent, compared with 88 percent for the last quarter and 83 percent year on year. Attrition for the quarter was 15 percent, up from 9 percent for the same period last year.
• IBM reported first-quarter net income of $2.6 billion compared with $2.3 billion in the first quarter of 2009, an increase of 13 percent. Total revenue for the first quarter of 2010 was $22.9 billion an increase of 5 percent year over year. However, the firm's Global Business Services segment revenues were flat (down 5 percent, adjusting for currency) at $4.4 billion year over year. Consulting services signings were up 18 percent, with 25 percent of signings related to Smarter Planet and Business Analytics. Strategic Outsourcing signings increased 6 percent. The estimated services backlog on March 31 was $134 billion at actual rates compared with $126 billion in the first-quarter of 2009.
