Recently, Deloitte Consulting CEO Punit Renjen said the firm is running utilization rates north of 80 percent. He admitted that was unsustainable.

It's no wonder, then, that Deloitte is on a bit of a hiring frenzy and making offers to between 50 and 60 experienced consultants each week. The firm is on pace to hire 700 consultants by June, says Rick Harrison, Deloitte Consulting's national managing director of talent.

In addition, the firm has hired almost 800 recent MBAs and undergrads and will make about 1,000 offers to the class of 2010.

These hiring goals are "probably on the low end of what we will experience this year," Harrison says. The hires come roughly one year after the firm added approximately 4,000 former BearingPoint consultants, mostly in the public sector. [CMSARTICLELIST:body|({indexcode} LIKE '%CMAG.A.150%')|1]
