Sherry Jones
Capgemini
Like many consultants, Sherry Jones ended up in the profession by accident. "I was working as a plant administrator of an organization and was responsible for processing personnel, benefits, timekeeping and payroll," she says. "At the same time, I was attending college at night and my major was Management Information Systems. I had a friend that worked for a software company that had an HR application and I went to work there as a systems consultant. And there began my consulting career."
Today, Jones is a Principal Consultant in Capgemini's ERP Consulting Practice. Jones says when she started out, there weren't a lot of women in consulting and those that were did a lot of "process" consulting. "It wasn't until large system implementations that integrated business process and change management began to be the norm that people started looking more about what your capabilities were versus whether you were a man or a woman," she says.
While at Capgemini, she has been responsible for a large manufacturing HR Transformation program including a PeopleSoft Implementation and most recently managed a successful Spend Management Program for a large Home Improvement Retail organization. "I enjoy working with clients and teams to bring any experience I can to help them be successful," Jones says.
But her greatest overall satisfaction, she says, is being the best mother she can be for her two children. "The biggest challenge I face is work-life balance." Jones says. "With two children that are as active as mine, it takes a lot of coordination and extra weekend activities, so I don't miss anything while traveling on business.
As a mom, I always want to be there to support them in whatever they choose to do."
