Leadership Award
Lynne Doughtie
KPMG
Lynne Doughtie joined KPMG almost 25 years ago with the goal to be an auditor. After 10 years in KPMG's Audit practice serving financial services clients, she was given the opportunity to move to KPMG's IT Advisory business, which the firm was just beginning to build. She did. "It was one of the best decisions I ever made," Doughtie says, "Career plans are great, but life can throw you a lot of curves. I've always felt you should take whatever pitch you're given, and just knock it
out of the park."
That's just what she's done. The IT Advisory practice grew exponentially, and eventually, Doughtie became National Managing Partner of U.S. Advisory.
Recently, Doughtie has taken on even a bigger role with the firm as Global Head of Clients for KPMG's worldwide advisory business. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to strengthen our strategic resources in support of global clients," she says.
Aside from her client-facing work, Doughtie takes great pride in the work she does internally for KPMG. "I find it especially rewarding to use my leadership role to support the careers of others," she says.
Doughtie's says her first—and most important—mentor, however, was her mother. "My mother was a great role model to me. She helped run a number of family-owned businesses, and she sincerely cared about her customers," she says. "I've tried to carry that same high level of dedication to all of my clients, as well."
The second thing Doughtie learned from her working mother was balance. "It never occurred to me that you couldn't have a rewarding career and a family," she says. "Balancing two kids, a husband and a demanding job is difficult, but not insurmountable."
