Don HuntDon Hunt is a manager architect at Enaxis Consulting, a Houston-based IT firm. In that role, Hunt helps clients refine their networks and select technology vendors. But that's not all he does. Hunt is also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Hunt spoke with Consulting about his other job.

Consulting: How did you get involved in the Civil Air Patrol?
Hunt: I started flying in about 2004. My instructor pilot at the time was a member of it. I started looking into it, and decided to give a little back to the community by helping them wherever I can. I've flown photo missions during [Hurricane] Katrina, and [Hurricane] Rita, I helped with logistics for the Air Force, FEMA, and the state and local government.

Consulting: When did you develop a passion for flying?
Hunt: I've always had it ever since I was very young. I never thought I could afford it, but I decided I needed something to do outside of work. When you're flying you only think of flying. It's a kind of stress release for me.

Consulting: Which came first, flying or consulting?
Hunt: I was actually flying first. I used to work for a large oil field company. I've been a consultant now for about a year and a half. It was a big change.

Consulting: How have your colleagues reacted to it?
Hunt: They enjoy it. They acknowledge that it's something they'd like to be able to do in the future.

Consulting:
Are you committed to a certain period of time?
Hunt: It's a volunteer group. There are no time constraints, it all depends how much time you want to put into it. I'm in what's called the senior group, and then they've got the younger group for the cadets, which are kids still in high school. They have a lot of cadet programs to help the kids get better.

Consulting: Has flying helped you at all with your day job?
Hunt: When you fly you've got to be able to manage your time so you don't get lost so people don't have to go looking for you. That's like being a consultant in a way because you have to plan everything out and know how you're going to get from Point A to Point B and make sure you meet your needs and the clients' needs at the same time.
