Everyday Practices of Extrodinary Consultants A Field Guide for Consultants
Christine Lambden and Casey Conner
Red Line Books, $24.95, 163 pages

Together, authors Christine Lambden and Casey Conner have more than 30 years of IT consulting experience. They've crammed that experience into a book, Everyday Practices of Extraordinary Consultants , that's concise enough to be read on a cross-country flight.

The book is structured around the martial arts tenet of thinking many moves ahead, covering not just "how" to consult, but offering proven insights for a wide variety of business issues. The book focuses on a variety of "moves" essential for success—such as fundamental moves, communication moves, integrity moves and administrative moves.

For the authors, the key to success isn't simply thinking one, or even several steps ahead to solve a problem. The key, they claim, is thinking 27 steps ahead. Now that's preparation any consultant would be proud of.
