CBI Sale by CGE&Y Dims Sector's R&D Glow

Three years after Cap Gemini tied the knot with Ernst & Young's consulting arm, the newly formulated CGE&Y is parting ways with its heralded Center for Business Innovation.

The center, dubbed CBI by E&Y's rank-and-file, was in discussions last month with a number of joint venture partners including Boston-based consulting firm Adventis.

Endowed with the mission "to anticipate and shape the future of business," CBI quickly became a feather in E&Y's consulting headgear in the 1990s, as it armed the accounting house's consulting minions with ideas and original knowledge. However, the marriage to Cap Gemini — an organization largely focused on outsourcing — appears to have made CBI's mission somewhat foggy in the minds of management, observers close to CBI say.
