It was a holiday when I first received the news that our top consultant had gotten nuked. Having accessed work-related e-mails in the waning hours of Labor Day weekend, I now suspect I may have angered the gods of holiday BBQs and hops-enriched beverages. How else do I explain the ousting of our top consultant and the Amazon-like rain that followed? Neither had been predicted.
Be that as it may, no fewer than three "urgent" e-mails clued me in to the fact that Bill Nussey, CEO of e-consultancy iXL, had exited the firm — in the wake of a sudden downturn in sales — to "pursue other interests." Ouch. There it was — I could almost see a small mushroom mist rising from my laptop.
