A Permanent State of Alert
I thought your Editor's Note in the April issue was very interesting and previewed the issue perfectly. This has got to be one of the best issues, from my perspective — especially the pieces with Maister and Tierney.
The role of government, as it affects consulting and as consulting is done for it, keeps coming up. I wanted to point out that PwC set out over four years ago to lead the discussion on the future of government management. We created the PwC Endowment for the Business of Government, which funds independent research and conferences on important public sector management topics.
As the PwC partner in our government practice who also leads our Endowment, I believe we are using the knowledge gained while consulting with government to become active members in the government management community.

Don't Forget the Little Guys
As a recent subscriber, I have been following the first few issues with interest. It would appear that your publication focuses primarily on the large, megasize firms with no attention to or acknowledgment of the smaller general or niche practice firms. I think that there might be several potentially interesting stories relating to how the large, mid-, and small-size firms compete and, perhaps, where there are potential synergies.
It would also be interesting to hear the clients' perspective as to satisfaction received from the three categories.

John, we're guilty as charged! However, we do make a frequent effort to quote consultants from small to mid-size firms in our stories. We also recently published a feature titled "Small Jewels," wherein we profiled seven small firms that have distinguished themselves. We will try to do better in that regard. Thanks for the reminder. — Ed.
