Lawyers for the UK-based Management Consultancies Association are at work drafting proposals aimed at toughening sanctions against members who give advice allegedly tainted by their alliances with technology companies. The changes will be discussed this month at a meeting of the association's ruling council.
The move is a response to concerns that consultants cannot give objective advice if they are exclusively recommending the products of a technology partner. While it's hard to challenge the virtues of consultancy independence, technology company joint ventures and alliances have dotted the consulting landscape for nearly a decade, and consulting profession observers can't help but wonder whether the asssociation's proposal is a tad late.
