Sapient Predicts Energy Brain Drain

Growth as well as unrest in the energy industry is expected to help the consulting sector enjoy robust growth in the years ahead.
Among the factors amplifying the energy industry's growing number of challenges is the sector's escalating brain drain, according to a recent research study released by Sapient's energy practice. According to the study, oil and gas industry demographics suggest that the bulk of key exploration and production workers will begin retiring in the coming years, with as many as 60 percent gone by 2010.
In addition, Sapient's studies of college enrollment trends indicate that there is a shortage of replacement workers, as fewer college students pursue careers in geoscience and petroleum engineering. This loss means that the energy companies' ability to make wise decisions will be less than half what it is today.
