As part of Infosys Consulting's quest to get employees to "Think Flat," the company has just wrapped up one of its first summer internship programs targeted at students from nearly everywhere but India. The program is called "InStep" and takes place year-round, attracting students from some of the most renowned universities on the planet who wish to spend 8 to 24 weeks in India.
"What we're trying to do is expose people to the things they need to learn culturally in order to work with individuals in India and China," says Stephen Pratt, CEO of Infosys Consulting.
This entails not only getting involved in a wide range of learning opportunities through Infosys, but also spending time in getting to know India. According to Pratt, "a lot of the learning is done by just going out while in India," where interns quickly learn to go out dancing after 11 p.m.
This year, Pratt says that the program housed 70 students in different locations within India. "And now, we've extended job offers to quite a few of them. We're hoping that they'll join Infosys Consulting in the U.S. and Europe," he confides.
