She said it before Cisco's stock tumbled and MarchFIRST liquidated. She said it before Alan Greenspan dropped interest rates and Amazon sank below $10 a share.
Earlier this year at the World Economic Forum, Bain & Co. chairman Orit Gadiesh found an opportunity to say it once more.
"A revolution happens not when a new tool is introduced, but when the nature and distribution of power shifts," she told attendees. "And the Internet is a tool …"
Unlike many of her peers, Gadiesh can never be accused of having given in to the appealing bluster of New Economy rhetoric. More than halfway into her third term as Bain chairman, the consultant, known for her willingness to be blunt with clients, remains in step with her drummer as she debunks the Internet's so-called revolutionary powers and summons industry to deploy the Internet not as a disruptive weapon, but as a tool.
According to Gadiesh, it's a tool that, when properly used, can help companies leverage their assets and improve their strategic position.
