Editor's Note: Marketing Plans... and Then Some

Kornik This is the time of year when things slow down, people go on vacation, companies go into mini-hibernation and the flow of industry news turns to a trickle until Labor Day. In September, we push ourselves ahead. But for a lazy-days-of-summer August issue, I have to say this one is pretty packed. First, we turn or attention to our cover story “Getting to Know the CMO.” Traditionally, we haven’t written a ton about Chief Marketing Officers and the work that consulting firms are doing for them. But, as it turns out, there’s plenty of marketing-related work out there… and it’s growing. Thanks to digital transformation, an explosion of marketing automation technology and breakthroughs in the tracking of customer behavior, there’s suddenly soaring demand for marketing-based consulting services. This, of course, is great news for the industry. Next up, we have an exclusive interview with Mohamed Kande, the new U.S. Advisory Leader for PwC. He’s been on this job about a month and shares with us some of his priorities, goals opportunities and challenges for the business. Advisory at PwC accounts for more than $11 billion in annual revenue and Kande, who has a technology background, says the firm is in the midst of “The Perfect Storm” as technology continues to disrupt nearly every industry and sector. PwC is poised to pounce. Speaking of Q&As, one of the analysts in our ALM Intelligence unit was fortunate enough to land a sit-down with Rick Cudworth, a UK-based Partner with Deloitte’s Risk Advisory practice. Cudworth also leads Deloitte’s Brexit Center and the firm’s Resilience and Crisis Management Services team. Finally, for those number-crunchers out there, this is the issue where we publish our findings from our annual Best Places to Stay survey. The long and short of it: Consultants are still traveling a lot, but things have slowed a bit from 2015′s insanity. This month, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. So stay cool and enjoy.
