Ask Kristi Nielsen Drew what’s been the biggest factor to her success and she says “Perseverance, grit, integrity and a constant desire to continuously learn.”
Combine that with some incredible mentors and sponsors who pushed her beyond her limits, and reached back while they were climbing ahead, she says. “That’s a concept I fully embrace and would also add that the incredible colleagues and teams I’ve worked with over the years are a critical factor to success,” Drew says. “In this business you never win alone.”
This year, after an extremely successful year, Drew made a strategic decision to transition to a new role in a different business, which has allowed her to learn a new business, and truly represent all of Aon for her clients. “This journey has been exciting because it affords me the opportunity to truly expand my Aon and client knowledge, working with a broader spectrum of client contacts and clients,” she says.
Drew helps clients and prospective clients effectively manage and plan for both people and business risks, representing the full breadth and depth of Aon. She is responsible for new business development, revenue growth, client expansion and retention.
“I find it incredibly powerful when working with a client, when we see we’ve added value and made a significant difference for that client and their business through things like strategy setting, executing a vision or saving costs,” she says. “It is these moments throughout my career that make me most proud to serve my clients and do what I do.”
Other efforts, initiatives and achievements she’s proud of include: Drew initiated and co-lead Aon’s Women’s International Network for N.J., a group that provides a global community for women at Aon to support personal and professional growth, help with career advancement at Aon as well as benefit clients through knowledge sharing. “This group is empowering and it’s fundamental to who I am,” she says. “And, going through our Partner promotion process and making Partner was a great milestone for me and one which I am proud of.”
Drew says it is a privilege and an honor to work with incredible colleagues and clients every day. As such when she starts her day, she makes a choice to be positive and do her best so that each night she knows she’s given it her all that day and she has no regrets. “I want to be a role model for my children, so they see what hard work looks like and to understand it pays off,” she says. “Nothing great ever gets accomplished without hard work.”
And that hard work has led to a Top 25 award. “It’s a great honor but it’s truly a testament to the great colleagues I work with day in and day out, who help me serve clients with distinction.”
Q&A: What would you say you enjoy most about your job and the consulting profession?
Drew: “I love building long-term relationships, and partnering with my clients to help solve real challenges and problems. Working with a variety of clients on a regular basis provides incredible opportunity to gain broad and varied insights and experiences. These diverse experiences increase value for my clients and make each day unique.”
