While it’s been a pretty good year for Dr. Deniz Caglar, he calls the completion of his Fit For Growth book a “milestone” for him. Caglar, a Principal with PwC and a leading practitioner of strategic cost management and organizational design with Strategy&, focuses on the Consumer Packaged Goods and Retail industries and also has extensive experience in the automotive, healthcare, and financial services industries.
As a specialist in PwC’s Fit for Growth approach, Caglar helps organizations improve their performance and transform for profitable growth.
“The book allows us to disseminate our experience and perspectives to a much broader audience, help shape how executives think about connecting strategy through execution, manage their organizations and cost structure to effectively execute strategy,” Caglar says. “The book has enabled us to successfully continue to drive the momentum of the Fit For Growth approach forward.”
And while that momentum certainly helps drive success, there is also another force that drives him to excel. “Fear of failure is a driving motivation,” he says. “I have a constant desire to serve our clients and consistently advance our capabilities in order to provide those clients with the best possible solutions day in and day out. I want clients to continue to see me as their consultant of choice for their toughest problems.”
While Caglar says he can honestly say he enjoys so many aspects of his job, but if he had to pick just one, he would say “working side by side with brilliant and innovative people both on the client side and within our teams.”
Recognizing no one person can do it all, Caglar says he is well aware that success or failure is based on his and his team’s ability to work well with others—other partners, client teams and internal support teams. “I cannot do what I do by myself,” he says. “I am grateful to the supportive and collaborative team and culture at PwC and my ‘happy team’ that have been the strongest factor to my success.”
Success that’s led him here—to a Top 25 Consultants award. The award is a group effort made up of many talented people, as well as is a validation of the success of the Fit For Growth approach. And while Caglar certainly plays a role, he says it is more a culmination of the firm’s expertise in driving strategy through execution.
“It is incredibly humbling and rewarding to be chosen for this prestigious award,” he says. “I am grateful to my mentors, our teams, and the countless support I have received along the way, without which this award would not have been feasible.”
Q&A: What achievements and accomplishments are you most proud of over the course of your career?
Caglar: “While it’s tough to pick any one single achievement, I’ve worked hard to establish trusted advisor relationships over the course of my career. Supporting my clients with their toughest problems has always been an important aspect of my work. Building relationships and trust is a very humbling and rewarding experience and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far.”
