KPMG Excellence in Information Technology Age: 34
David Tarabocchia was promoted to Managing Director at 33 years of age after 10 years with KPMG, “a tremendous point of pride,” Tarabocchia says. “Over the years, I’ve always taken the job a day at a time and continued in it so long as I’m learning, growing, and enjoying my work. I certainly didn’t go into this career assuming I’d be here a decade later, but the fact that I’m still learning, growing and having fun means I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”
Tarabocchia also serves as the Global Lead in the Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality industry sector. As part of that role, he leads delivery teams and serves as a trusted advisor to technology executives. He also holds regional leadership roles in our technology infrastructure community and in KPMG’s state & local government sector.
Tarabocchia says he thinks most clients are turned off by someone trying to be the smartest guy in the room, they want someone who will roll up their sleeves and work with them side-by-side with a good dose of humor and humility.
“I think a big factor in my success has been having an account focus and taking a non-transactional approach to serving my clients,” he says. “To me, this means listening first, understanding their business issues, understanding what’s a personal win for them, understanding how they like to consume professional services, and bringing teams to bear that not only have credibility but also compatible styles with my clients.”
Tarabocchia appreciates that consulting affords him the opportunity to never have to make up his mind. “You get to work with some of the leading companies in the world and help them solve their toughest challenges and get things done,” he says. “There’s always an opportunity to reinvent yourself.”
