61. Ryan Growth Rate: 23% HQ: Dallas
Ryan is a global tax services firm, with the largest indirect and property tax practices in North America and the seventh largest corporate tax practice in the United States. With global headquarters in Dallas, the firm provides a comprehensive range of state, local, federal, and international tax advisory and consulting services. Brint Ryan, Founder and CEO of Ryan, sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm’s financial performance and success.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm’s exceptional growth?
Ryan: Since our founding in 1991, we have operated under the belief that when our clients come first, growth and profitability will follow. Our ongoing commitment to client service means that our clients’ priorities are our priorities. And our clients have appreciated the difference this approach provides, rewarding us with long-term partnerships and additional engagements that have fueled an impressive 25-year history of annual year-over-year revenue growth.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Ryan: 2016 is a milestone year for our Firm, as we celebrated our 25th anniversary in July. While we are proud of where we have been and what we’ve accomplished to date, we are laser-focused on the tremendous opportunity we have ahead of us. We expect to continue our impressive record of year-over-year revenue growth in 2016 and are on track to post record profitability. More importantly, we have been working hard in 2016 to put in place the infrastructure, technology, and human resources required to support our anticipated strong growth over the next five years.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2017? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Ryan: With the prospect of closing the year in the strongest position we’ve ever been in, we still have only captured roughly 2 percent of the available market share in tax services. With more than 60 percent of the Fortune 500 in our client portfolio, including 29 of the 30 companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average, we work with many of the most respected global corporations in the world. We have boundless opportunities to vastly expand our existing engagements, and have built a robust business development function that is poised to capture an even greater share of Global 5000 companies as we move into 2017.
Consulting: What are your firm’s biggest challenges in 2017?
Ryan: To support continued growth, capitalize on the opportunities in front of us, and continue to innovate, we need to continuously attract and retain the smartest entry-level professionals, as well as the most knowledgeable team of experienced professionals in our industry. As the economy slowly improves, we have to fight harder for our share of highly talented professionals. Our internationally recognized myRyan flexible work environment—where employees are evaluated by results as opposed to where and when the work is performed—has positioned us well for meeting this challenge in 2017.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting’s Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Ryan: It is an honor to be named one of Consulting’s fastest growing firms, and it validates the successful execution of our strategic growth plan. I would like to thank all of our clients who’ve placed their trust in Ryan over the years, as well as our employees for their tireless contributions to our phenomenal growth rate.
