This time last year, the ink was still drying on NTT Data’s acquisition of Best Firms to Work For powerhouse Carlisle & Gallagher. Indeed, last year CG’s President Steve Chapman, said the firm would spend the next 12 months focusing on the integration of CG into NTT Data. Indeed, it has. And by all measures it was an unbridled success as NTT Data now makes its debut as one of the Best Firms to Work For.
Quite an accomplishment when one considers the difficulty an acquisition of this magnitude can have on morale at a firm. “It’s inspirational times at NTT Data, because our employees have the opportunity to build something new within this global organization,” says Tom Mataconis, Senior Vice President, FSI Business Consulting for NTT Data. “The establishment of the business consulting practice within NTT Data adds strategy to an already solid delivery and operations business model.”
NTT Data’s business consulting capability is focused on the business and technology issues most important to financial services institutions, Mataconis says. “Together, the combined entities working in concert with NTT Data’s traditional banking and financial services technology services, including digital business, application management and global delivery.”
For legacy NTT Data clients, they now have access to a larger set of financial-services centric consulting capabilities and a deeper pool of industry expertise to help them strategize new approaches to overcoming challenges and creating new growth opportunities, Mataconis says. For legacy CG clients, they now have access to NTT Data’s full spectrum of global technology and outsourcing capabilities.
“Clients are always our top priority and in that regard maintaining delivery excellence and extending our collective NTT Data brand are key focus areas,” he says. “We have long-term relationships with most of our clients and ensuring they’re both familiar and comfortable with the breadth of our capability is key.”
Business and technology are converging and clients need technologists that are conversant in their industry and business consultants that are very familiar with enabling technology, he says. “We see these as huge opportunities for our clients. These are exciting times for FSI and for NTT Data.”
Q&A: On the survey, the firm excelled in the areas of Firm Leadership and Client Engagement. Why do you think that is?
Mataconis: “Our leaders are very connected to our consultants and to our clients. Leadership plays a hands-on role in helping our people succeed on a client engagement and overall, growing their career. Conversely, our consultants are encouraged to be involved in helping develop our communities and practices, side-by-side with leadership. In addition, NTT Data is a truly client-centric organization. Our instinctual desire to collaborate—with each other and with our clients—is another key factor in building deep client engagement. We want to integrate with, not disrupt, our client’s culture and way of working. We want to be in the trenches with our clients, not just the board room. This genuine mentality of being ‘in it together’ is a key success factor in all our client relationships.”
