Digital health realities are blending into the norm of daily living in 2016, just as consumer devices have infiltrated our lives with real-time sharing, enjoying music, searching for deals and to automatically replenishing laundry detergent. Digital adoption has changed the way we live and work. Digital is so pervasive, why aren't we experiencing the same (or better) when we engage with the healthcare system?

In the U.S., it's standard practice to see your doctor in the office, where she reviews your health history on an EMR, digitally places the order for a new prescription that can be picked up on the way home. Much more than simplified convenience—digital health mechanisms are provisioning truly personalized patient-centric engagement supporting proactive, predictive and service-oriented care—that is, if HC stakeholders function as a connected health ecosystem.
