Age: 34

The HCI Group, a healthcare IT consulting firm, was started by CEO Richard Caplin, along with President Greg Jones, in 2009. In just seven years, Caplin has grown the company from a few of people to over 400 employees.

In 2013, Inc. Magazine ranked The HCI Group as the “fastest growing healthcare company in the U.S.” In 2014, HCI was recognized by Inc. Magazine as the No. 1 privately held company in Florida, and No. 3 privately held healthcare company in the country. And Ernst & Young awarded Caplin the “2015 Florida Entrepreneur of the Year” award.

“Professionally speaking, HCI’s inclusion in the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies for three years in a row, as well as winning the 2015 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, are my most proud accomplishments,” Caplin says. Personally, Caplin says he is “most proud of my incredibly loving and supportive wife and two children.”

A man of faith, Caplin credits a higher power for his success thus far. “The biggest factor to my success is the confidence that comes with knowing that God is in control,” he says. And ask Caplin about the best advice he’s ever received and he’ll quote Proverbs. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding,” he says.

The most exciting thing about my career in this industry, he says, is the opportunity he has to impact healthcare on a global scale.

As far as the recognition, Caplin says he’s “honored to be recognized for this award. It is yet another reminder of how blessed I am to have such strong support from the people in my personal and professional life.”
