An impressive 165 percent growth rate helped land the firm at No. 18 position on Consulting‘s Fastest Growing Firms list. To learn more about the firm and its financial performance, Consulting sat down with Bode to discuss SpearMC Consulting’s growth over the last three years.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to you exceptional growth rate?
Bode: We were overly conservative with not hiring more experienced A-players early on in the company’s history. We did not realize the importance of bringing on talent and properly delegating responsibility and reward. This alone has been the single most important driver to SpearMC’s success from 2011 to date. Also, trust yourself. Ignore what others make think about you or what you are doing. Politely hear what naysayers have to say about your ideas…then never listen to them again. Out hustle the competition. Always assume your competition is smarter than you and that they have more resources, but never assume that your competition can out-work you.
Consulting: How is 2015 shaping up for your firm?
Bode: 2015 will be another record-setting year for SpearMC. We are rapidly expanding our Oracle, IBM and NetSuite applications practice with strong growth in ERP, Business Intelligence and EAM. We continue to excel in penetrating the Utilities, Healthcare, Higher Ed and Financial Services verticals with in-house developed solutions representing each sector. This year also brought our sixth regional office on-line. We opened Phoenix in August of 2015.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2016? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Bode: I see plenty of opportunities in: Enterprise Asset Management (EAM); FinTech and Alternative Lending; Healthcare and Research; and, West Coast Region from L.A. to Seattle.
Consulting: What do you see as the biggest challenges for your firm in 2016?
Bode: Keeping employees happy and satisfied; recruiting A-listers to the SpearMC Team, and improving productivity while lowering administrivia.
