Revenue Growth: 30%
MSS helps companies innovate and transform their business to achieve results. “We lead change from strategy to action in people, processes and technology,” says Chad Kirkpatrick, Vice President and General manager of Phoenix Operations.
“Our operating principle is to facilitate, educate and support our clients.”
The firm lands at No. 48 on Consulting’s ranking this year after compiling 30 percent growth. Kirkpatrick sat down to discuss the firm’s performance with Consulting.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your exceptional growth?
Kirkpatrick: At the start of the great recession in 2008, the MSS management consulting team focused on larger corporate enterprise accounts and continued supporting our Oracle JD Edwards partnership. This focus provided us financial stability and began a trend of revenue and profitability growth starting in 2010. Starting in 2011, we reentered consulting for the mid-market and combined with our larger corporate enterprise anchor accounts resulted in exceptional growth. As the economy continued to recover, it allowed business entities (our customers) to innovate and transform their businesses. Since 2012, we have continued to fine-tune our success as a business transformation enabler with a focus on people, process and technology.
Consulting: How is 2015 shaping up for your firm?
Kirkpatrick: 2015 looks to be one of our best years! So far we’ve had over 50 percent revenue growth and have met all financial goals. We expanded and matured our service offerings and now have greater consultant-corporate collaboration. We were able to achieve this by adding subject matter expertise depth with our new hires.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2016? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Kirkpatrick: 2016 looks to be another growth year, however our focus is on absorbing our recent growth and creating operational excellence—strengthening our team, focusing our service offerings, enhancing our internal processes. This focus will lay the groundwork for that next stage of rapid growth.
Consulting: What do you see as the biggest challenges for your firm in 2016?
Kirkpatrick: The exponential growth of the last five years and especially the 50 percent revenue growth in 2015 has forced us to reevaluate and refine our internal processes. Recruiting and retaining top quality talent is a big challenge and is at the top of the list. The market is now very competitive for top talent and will be for the next couple years.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting’s Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Kirkpatrick: Being named one of Consulting magazine’s Fastest Growing Firms is a big honor and reward for the work of our team members. MSS is an Employee-Owned Company and it is great that our employee owners are publicly recognized for their efforts. Also, long-term client relationships are critical to the growth and future of MSS. MSS is continually improving client relationships to better understand our clients’ needs while ensuring that clients will continue to buy MSS services and provide references and testimonials. Being named one of Consulting’s Fastest Growing Firms is a result of building and maintaining these client relationships and we thank and appreciate each and every one of them!
