Revenue Growth: 155%
Arc Aspicio is a rapidly growing consulting and technology firm focused on homeland security. The firm is a woman-owned small business that was started in 2004 by CEO Lynn Ann Casey. “Our primary clients are the many agencies within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” Casey says. “We focus on mission-critical consulting and strive to become the most trusted DHS consulting company in the industry, and the company of choice for our clients and partners.”
Consulting caught up with Casey to discuss the firm’s 155 percent growth rate and No. 20 ranking.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your exceptional growth rate?
Casey: Our disciplined strategic planning process and focus on developing our talented employees to be leaders at all levels substantially contributed to our growth. In addition, our laser focus on the homeland security mission (and ability to say no to expansion into other markets) means that we can offer unique value to our Government clients in a complex and budget constrained environment.
Consulting: How is 2015 shaping up for your firm?
Casey: Our strong growth continues into 2015! The company started several new projects in information technology and human capital that provide the foundation for near and long-term growth. We estimate that our 2015 growth will exceed 30 percent and we will enter 2016 with the strongest backlog of client work in our company’s history.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm’s outlook for 2016? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Casey: In October 2015, we embarked on a bold and exciting strategy to get ahead of upcoming disruptions in the consulting market. Our strong network in the homeland security market is a key strength. In 2016, we plan to pivot off of our maturing capabilities in information sharing, data analytics, and cyber security and expand offerings to our Government clients.
Consulting: What do you see as the biggest challenges for your firm in 2016?
Casey: In 2016, we anticipate some challenges in finding the right new talent. While we have streamlined our recruiting process and more than 3,400 candidates have applied as of October 2015. Less than 3 percent of those who apply receive offers. We need to continue to select the most entrepreneurial, self-aware, and loyal candidates that we can find.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting’s Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Casey: Our clients understand that as we grow and develop our internal capabilities (skills, methods, accelerators, etc.), they will have quick access to these. This award gives them confidence that we continue to grow and will provide even more capabilities in the future. Our employees are just excited—excited to be recognized as part of a growing firm in a market that has been very challenging. As Arc Aspicio embarks on a bold strategy for the next three years, our goal is to maintain our current differentiators (the mission, our methodology) while focusing on expanding our capabilities in data analytics, design thinking, and reinventing consulting to take advantage of our network of relationships in our market.
