Being a newcomer on the Best Small Firms to Work For list is impressive. Being a newcomer that cracks the Top 5 is even more impressive, but that’s just what Chicago based Liberty Advisor Group has done in 2015.
“We are very honored to be recognized as one of the Best Small Firms to Work for,” says Chad Smith, CEO of Liberty Advisor Group. “Our firm leadership and team members view this recognition as a great opportunity to share with our clients and with the consulting community more about the firm values and unique culture of which we are all proud to be a part.”
From a cultural and morale perspective, Smith describes the firm this way: “We are a passionate group of professionals who truly enjoy the work we are doing and are having fun while building our business. Our firm morale is reflective of our culture—we celebrate an entrepreneurial spirit, we foster collaboration and teamwork amongst team members, and we focus on delivering exceptional value for our clients. I think our team members feel a responsibility for maintaining and building morale and culture at the firm.”
Actually, Liberty had the highest satisfaction score on the survey question: How positive would you say the morale is at your company?
So it makes perfect sense that Culture was one of the areas where the firm excelled on the survey. Smith says the firm devotes a significant amount of time and energy into firm culture, even through tremendous growth. “Most importantly, we have a lot of fun together—whether that’s while working with our clients or getting together outside of work,” Smith says. “We value individuals and the personal relationships we have both internally and with our clients.”
In addition, Liberty finished third overall in the Client Engagement category. “We approach each engagement as shareholders in the company we’re advising, which helps build a very positive relationship and looks beyond what’s simply written on a statement of work,” he says. “Every team member also is actively engaged in the direct delivery of results, so teams aren’t sprawling and stratified in a leveraged, hierarchal model. Because of this, tactical teams are able to consistently deliver results to our clients.”
Smith says the firm also employs a unique approach to consulting. “We do not operate as consultants. We believe in outcome-based fixed-fee pricing and in leveraging the experience and judgment of our professionals rather than relying on rigid methodologies,” he says. “Rather than focus on the ‘deliverable’, we apply pragmatic execution with a relentless focus on client outcomes, in the form of improved operating income.”
Q&A: When you look at 2016, what excites you the most?
Chad Smith, CEO of Liberty Advisor Group, says: “Liberty grows when our clients outperform their competitors. We have experienced a tremendous amount of growth in the past two years and we are excited to continue to grow our team and continue our track record of delivering results for our clients. Specifically, we have seen increased opportunities in our Private Equity and M&A service offerings and are proud to have helped our clients with dozens of transactions this year. In addition we believe our unique approach to leveraging enterprise data and advanced analytics to drive profit improvements will continue to generate more opportunities for our firm in the next 18 months.”
