After making its Best Firms to Work For debut in 2014 at No. 12, McGladrey cracks the Top 10 again in 2015 at No. 9.

“Being a Best Firm to Work For validates that the energy and resources we’ve invested in delivering a more rewarding talent experience for our employees are having a real impact,” says Gary Sturisky, National Consulting Leader of McGladrey. “And that translates into a superior client experience for the middle market leaders we serve, because the two go hand-in-hand.”

Sturisky says McGladrey’s goal is to be the first-choice advisor to middle market business leaders globally, regardless of where in the world those businesses are located. “Clients want to work with advisors who enjoy their work and who add value in helping them solve their business challenges,” Sturisky says. “We believe our employees provide the best client service when they’re doing work they love in an environment they enjoy.”

Ask Sturisky what sets McGladrey apart and makes it unique and he’ll say that it’s a laser focus on the assurance, tax and consulting services of the middle market globally. “We use our deep understanding of our clients to help them succeed. Similarly, we regularly survey our employees regarding what they need to be successful and adjust our programs accordingly.”

On the survey, McGladrey excelled in the areas Career Development and Work/Life Balance, a category where the firm finished 5th overall. “McGladrey has a strong focus on flexibility, and we encourage employees to work with their managers to develop work/life options that enable them to provide excellent client service while also having time to devote to their families, friends and personal interests,” he says.

Sturisky says the firm is anxiously anticipating the adoption of RSM as a common brand name in October, uniting with fellow firms of its global network RSM International to further strengthen the organization’s position as the leading global provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market.

“We have a lot to be excited about here at McGladrey,” he says. “We experienced strong growth over the past fiscal year—including double-digit growth over the last five years in our consulting line of business—and expect to grow even more over the coming year.”

He says: “The power of being understood” isn’t just a tagline, “it’s the way we approach our relationships. By truly understanding the needs of our various stakeholders, we’re able to provide solutions that work.”

Q&A: Were there any programs or initiatives that you’d say contributed to you being a Best Firm?

Gary Sturisky, McGladrey’s National Consulting Leader, says: “McGladrey has a strong focus on flexibility in the workplace, and two years ago Richard Caturano, former chairman of the AICPA, was named to lead our firm’s culture, diversity and inclusion efforts and we’re very committed to that program. From our front-line employees to our managing partner and CEO, many employees take advantage of the firm’s flexible work options to ensure work-life integration. We also have formal global rotation programs of varying lengths for our employees. Global rotations enable people to experience other cultures and work opportunities outside of the United States. Lastly, McGladrey really believes in investing in our people through formal and informal educational opportunities.”
