Excellence in Leadership
Pat Meade is General Manager of Slalom’s Western Region, where he is responsible for driving the overall vision, direction, strategy, and operations for seven local offices that help fuel Slalom Consulting’s successful business model.
By attracting and empowering a team of strong leaders rooted in their own local markets—Denver, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, and Southern California—he guides the company toward expanded growth, a larger footprint, and a wider range of innovative solutions.
Among his proudest accomplishments thus far, Meade says he counts two things. “The first is the formation of Slalom’s Western Region,” he says. “This was brand new for our company and something we all approached with a bit of trepidation. It has gone very well, in terms of both adoption and financial success. We are now positioned to repeat this in other regions across the country.”
The second, Meade says, is growing San Francisco from the very beginning, with no revenue and no people, into a successful business with a run rate of over $75 million and 250 employees.
And when he looks out over his career, Meade can count a third achievement— being the catalyst for creating Slalom’s 2013 Fund, which is the firm’s employee equity incentive program. “This program took more than a year to create and implement, and is now part and parcel to Slalom’s culture,” Meade says.
Ask Meade what motivates his to excel, and he says the answer is pretty simple: Slalom Consulting. “I love our company. I want us to do well because of everything we provide and everything we stand for,” he says. “I love who we are, where we’re going, and who I know we will become.”
Based in Seattle, Slalom has organically grown to more than 3,000 employees. Founded in 2001, Slalom Consulting has been ranked as one of the Top 10 Best Firms to Work For by Consulting Magazine four times, and earned recognition from Microsoft as a Partner of the Year five times.
Slalom designs and builds strategies and systems to help clients solve some of their most complex and interesting business challenges. Meade says Slalom puts people first. “Every individual who joins becomes part of the fabric, weaving their talents and perspective into the greater whole of who we are,” he says.
And when it comes to building on the success Slalom has enjoyed thus far, he says one of the keys is to continue to hire great people. “People who love what they do will do great,” Meade says. “I can see it in them immediately; you cannot fake it. Mentor them when needed, but otherwise let them run.”
As far as winning the Top 25 Consultants award, Meade says: “Honestly, it feels good. I am not one to crave the spotlight but it makes me feel proud about what I’ve done in my career and the unparalleled support I get from Slalom Consulting.”
