Perhaps they do not know as much as one would hope. Getting the right people on the right projects at the right time is no longer a luxury for consulting firms. It’s essential to success—for both the client and the bottom line. But that success hinges on project visibility and transparency within a firm.
And, according to the results of a recent Consulting magazine Efficiency and Automation survey, some 60 percent of consultants said their firm lacked the sufficient access to reporting project profitability/progress, while another 30 percent reported projects fail to meet profitability expectations.
Imagine one out of three consulting engagements failing to meet expectations.
While there are a number of reasons why this may be, “scope creep” was the biggest reason consulting projects were unprofitable, according to the survey. With all of the internal metrics and systems in place these days, how is this even possible? It’s because those systems are faulty, ignored, or not used properly.
