José Cortina, Managing Director, Alvarez & Marsal.

Professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed José Cortina as managing director in Mexico City. The hire marks a significant expansion of the firm's Global Disputes and Investigations (GDI) services within the region as demand for specialized forensic expertise continues to rise.

In his new role, Cortina will focus on internal investigations, disputes, litigation support, and intelligence gathering across Mexico and Central America. He is tasked with building a localized team of on-the-ground experts to address complex compliance and regulatory matters for both corporate clients and law firms.

Cortina brings more than two decades of investigative experience to A&M. Throughout his career, he has conducted risk prevention, mitigation, and corruption control assessments for numerous Fortune 500 companies. His background includes leading high-stakes investigations into allegations of financial wrongdoing, including fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering.

"Mr. Cortina's hire reflects A&M's commitment to meeting the needs of clients globally," said Jerry Dent, Global Disputes and Investigations co-leader. "Investigations are increasingly global in nature and Mr. Cortina brings significant experience assisting organizations with navigating complex matters in Mexico and across broader Latin America."

Prior to joining A&M, Cortina spent four years with FTI Consulting as the head of its disputes and investigations practice in Mexico. His career also includes tenures as a lead forensic partner with Deloitte Mexico and Central America and as a manager of the antifraud and extortions team at OCRA.

Sergio Meneses, managing director of Northern Latin America at A&M, noted that Cortina's depth of expertise would be vital for the firm's future growth in the region. Cortina is a certified auditor, a member of the Mexican Bar Association, and the founder of Fundación SEK, a charitable organization based in Mexico.
