Veteran economist returns to the firm after a tenure at a global economics consultancy, bringing deep expertise in merger reviews and antitrust litigation.

Professional services firm Charles River Associates (CRA) has announced the addition of Hitesh Makhija as a vice president in the firm's Antitrust & Competition Economics Practice. Based in Oakland, Makhija rejoins the firm to strengthen its capabilities in M&A-related economics and sophisticated antitrust litigation.
Makhija previously spent a decade at CRA between 2012 and 2022. Prior to rejoining the firm, he served as a vice president for a large international economics consultancy. In his career as a lead consultant, he has evaluated the effects of mergers and alleged anticompetitive conduct in high-stakes sectors including semiconductors, software, hardware, retail, oil and gas, automobile, and airlines.

In his new role, Makhija joins a team of practitioners tasked with assisting clients in complex competition matters. His experience spans all phases of the litigation process before major global regulators, and he has submitted evidence to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, the European Commission, and the Canadian Competition Bureau.

Makhija holds a BE in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai, as well as an MA in Economics from both New York University and the University of Minnesota.
