Global management consultancy Baringa has appointed Michael Cheek as a Partner in its Banking and Capital Markets practice. Based in New York, Cheek will focus on supporting banking and markets clients as they navigate significant shifts in trading, post-trade, and core operations.

In his new role, Cheek will work with institutions across the U.S. to address complex change programs within highly regulated environments. His remit includes overseeing initiatives related to operating model redesign, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of technology-enabled capabilities, including digital platforms and data-driven strategies.

"Michael's experience enables us to work with clients on the issues that matter most to them, from strengthening core operations to executing complex change with precision in the market," said Cindra Maharaj, Partner and Head of U.S. Banking and Capital Markets at Baringa. She noted that his leadership is central to the firm's ongoing expansion in the U.S. financial services market.

Cheek joins Baringa with more than two decades of experience in capital markets consulting. He previously held senior leadership positions at Accenture and Alvarez & Marsal, where he advised both buy-side and sell-side organizations on enterprise-wide transformations and the alignment of corporate structures with strategic goals.

The appointment comes at a time when financial institutions are grappling with system modernization and the rise of emerging technologies. Baringa is positioning itself to help clients manage the impact of artificial intelligence, digital assets, and evolving market structures on traditional business models and operational resilience.

According to Cheek, the industry is entering a transformative period. "We are at the cusp of a once-in-a-lifetime shift in a space that has remained largely unchanged for decades," he stated, noting that AI and digital assets are set to "upend years of optimization roadblocks" and revolutionize transparency within the heart of capital markets.
