The firm aims to address operational complexity and performance improvement across capital-intensive sectors with the appointment of James C. Metro. The new Americas-based practice will support clients navigating supply chain volatility, ESG expectations, and the energy transition.
EFESO Management Consultants has launched its Mining, Metals & Minerals practice in the Americas, expanding the firm's footprint in capital-intensive and operationally complex industrial sectors. In conjunction with the launch, the firm announced that James C. Metro has joined as Partner and head of the new practice, based out of Houston.
The move comes at a time when organizations in the mining and metals industries are grappling with extreme capital intensity and safety-critical requirements across their entire value chains. The new practice is designed to provide these organizations with the resources needed to stabilize execution and deliver measurable performance improvements, from initial resource extraction and processing through to customer delivery.
"Mining, metals, and mineral processing companies are facing unprecedented pressure from supply chain localization requirements to feed variability, cost volatility, increasing safety and ESG expectations, and more," said Andreas Doerken, CEO of EFESO Americas. He noted that under Metro's leadership, the practice will combine deep sector expertise with the firm's proven performance transformation methodology.
Metro brings three decades of global industry experience to the role, having worked across five continents throughout his career. His background includes leading multi-site mining turnarounds to improve equipment availability and unit costs, as well as optimizing large-scale mineral processing operations to increase throughput and recovery. He has also focused on strengthening capital portfolio governance to accelerate production timelines.
According to Metro, the mining and metals environment is one where small instabilities can create disproportionate losses in throughput, safety exposure, and cash. "We know how to help organizations stabilize operations, align planning with real capability, and embed disciplined execution routines to deliver sustainable results," Metro stated, adding that the firm will work side-by-side with both C-suite executives and field teams.
