Honorees and team members from Wilson Perumal & Company, Outlook Accounting & Taxes and ImagineX Consulting celebrate their wins at the Best Firms to Work For awards gala.

Consulting Magazine hosted its 25th annual Best Firms to Work For awards gala Thursday, Sept. 11, in Chicago, honoring 51 firms in 4 size categories: 9 (Boutique), 18 (Small), 16 (Midsize) and 8 (Large). The complete list of 2025 honorees can be viewed here.

"For 25 years, our Best Firms to Work For awards have recognized organizations that truly invest in their people—from boutique consultancies to global leaders,” noted Consulting Magazine’s Director, Michael A. Webb. “These firms understand that employee engagement and professional fulfillment aren't just nice-to-haves, they're essential to success."

Beyond the top four finishers many other perennial honorees and newcomers made great showings for this year's list.

The order of rankings shuffled slightly this year as honoree size categories expanded from two to four. Adjusted from previous years’ breakouts of only Large and Small firms, categories for evaluation expanded to Boutique firms, consisting of 20-50 billable personnel; Small firms (51-249); Midsize firms (250-999) and Large firms (1,000+).

Notable Placements for 2025

While many new firms entered the program for and placed respectably, the most impressive inaugural entrants moved straight to the No. 1 positions in their categories. Outlook Accounting & Taxes came out of nowhere to secure the top position in the Boutique category, and Access Global Group assumed the lead spot in the Small category. Outstanding debuts for both firms!

Streak Leaders

Huron, Slalom, Impact Advisors and SEI top the endurance charts with 16 straight inclusions since the program’s inception in 2000. CapTech, ImagineX and West Monroe follow closely with 9-year runs while Acquis Consulting Group, Coalfire, Pathways Consulting Group, Spaulding Ridge and The Gunter Group each hold 8-year runs on the list. This consistency highlights sustained employee engagement and operational resilience across firm sizes.

New Entrants in 2025

The expansion into Boutique and Midsize brackets opened doors for fresh faces. In the Boutique category, several firms made their debut: Outlook Accounting & Taxes; TruEd Consulting; Proje; Sketch Development; and Sedulo Group.

On the Midsize front, several newcomers claimed spots: EXAVALU; Clarkston Consulting; Morgan Franklin Cyber; Iron Mountain and Ellit Groups. Their arrival signals growing recognition of specialized and mid-scale consultancies.

Biggest 2024→2025 Movers

Most dramatic improvements:

  • CompassX Consulting: climbed 14 spots after moving from Small into Boutique
  • ECG Management Consultants: +13 adjustment after moving into Midsize
  • ImagineX Consulting: +12 within Small
  • Cognizant: +11 in the Large segment
Largest declines:

  • Collective Insights: fell 4 notches
  • Impact Advisors: slid 3 slots as it transitioned to Midsize
