Bret Greenstein, Chief AI Officer, West Monroe.
West Monroe has named Bret Greenstein as its new Chief AI Officer, bringing in an executive with experience from PwC, Cognizant, and IBM to lead its artificial intelligence strategy. The business and technology consulting firm announced the appointment Tuesday.
In his new role, Greenstein will be responsible for integrating AI across the firm's client services, commercial offerings and internal workforce training. According to the company, his mandate is structured around three key areas: shaping AI-enabled offerings for clients, embedding AI into the firm's project delivery methods, and promoting AI adoption and governance among West Monroe's employees.
Greenstein joins West Monroe from PwC, where he led the firm’s Generative AI practice, focusing on go-to-market strategy and alliances. His prior experience includes serving as the Global AI & Analytics Leader at Cognizant and holding several leadership positions at IBM, including Vice President of Watson IoT.
This hire is a significant move for West Monroe and reflects a broader trend among consulting firms to establish dedicated leadership for their rapidly growing AI practices. By bringing in a leader directly from a Big Four competitor, the firm is positioning itself to more aggressively compete for AI transformation projects.
The appointment is one of several recent leadership changes under CEO Gil Mermelstein, who took the helm July 1, 2025. In late July, the firm also hired Harin Shetty, a former Senior Managing Director at Accenture, as its new President. Taken together, these hires indicate an effort by West Monroe's new leadership to deepen its C-suite expertise and accelerate growth in high-demand technology sectors.
"Bret joins West Monroe at a time when bold innovation and the need to drive real results faster has never been higher," said Mermelstein in a statement. He noted that Greenstein's role will be to strengthen the firm's multidisciplinary approach to technology and innovation.
West Monroe has been building its AI capabilities for some time, having developed a proprietary AI tool for internal use and an AI-powered asset suite, Intellio®, designed to accelerate technology-related tasks for clients. The firm was also recently included as a "Notable Vendor" in Forrester's Q2 2025 report on The AI Technical Services Landscape.
"I'm excited to build on West Monroe's track record of success, culture of innovation, and deep technology expertise to help build one of the most AI-native consulting firms in the market," Greenstein stated.
