Ricardo is known for its expertise in the transport, energy and environment sectors, and the firm has been increasingly focused on its air quality, water management and energy resilience business. In addition to its consulting and advisory services, Ricardo also has a significant presence in the rail and mass transit sector. The firm's automotive and industrial business is another key area of focus.
WSP's acquisition of Ricardo is expected to support the firm's 2025-2027 Global Strategic Action Plan and its focus on high-growth areas. WSP is particularly interested in Ricardo's expertise in the rail, air quality and water management sectors, as well as the firm's policy strategy and advisory work. The acquisition will also help WSP further strengthen its presence in the UK, Australia and the Netherlands.
“The proposed acquisition of Ricardo perfectly aligns with WSP’s vision for sustainable, compounding growth and our clear ambitions to expand in advisory, energy transition, water solutions and the rail sector over the next three years,” said Alexandre L’Heureux, President and CEO of WSP. “We are poised to enhance our ability to deliver innovative solutions as we combine our global reach and resources with Ricardo’s complementary expertise. Moreover, the shared entrepreneurial spirit and technical excellence between our teams will position us to create further value for our clients. We look forward to welcoming Ricardo’s talented professionals to WSP and seizing new opportunities with our broadened service offering.”
The deal is subject to the approval of Ricardo's shareholders, as well as the necessary regulatory approvals. WSP expects the acquisition to close in the second half of 2025.
