Michael Bandemer, Partner, HKA

HKA has announced the appointment of Michael Bandemer as Partner and head of the firm’s Digital Forensics and Data Solutions practice in the Americas. Michael brings more than 20 years of experience in forensic technology, specializing in the preservation, defensible forensic collection, analysis, and search of electronically stored information (ESI) and forensic artifacts in over 1,000 matters.

Bandemer’s distinguished career in forensic technology includes more than two decades of experience providing expert witness and strategic consulting services to law firms and corporate clients in areas such as computer forensics, investigations, eDiscovery, data analytics and data privacy/data breaches. Bandemer has given expert testimony in declarations, reports, depositions and at trial. He has also served as a neutral computer forensics examiner by court appointment or stipulation and testified as a 30(b)(6)/1442 corporate representative in digital forensics, data systems and eDiscovery.

Bandemer has addressed discovery/forensic issues concerning records management, forensic protocols, accessibility, authentication, burden, preservation, collection, spoliation, misappropriation, remediation, search and production. He has assisted with a diverse range of matters, including misappropriation of trade secrets, internal employment investigations, asset tracing, business email compromise (BEC), falsified or altered emails/texts/documents, metadata analysis, fraud investigations, unstructured data analytics and regulatory inquiries (SEC, USPS, FTC).

Before joining HKA, Bandemer was a Managing Director and founder of the Discovery and Forensic Technology Services group at another global consulting firm. Bandemer holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Arizona State University and is a Certified EnCase Computer Examiner (EnCE), a Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). He is an active member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), where he has held positions as chapter president and a member of the international board of directors; a contributing author of The Sedona Conference Working Group 12’s digital forensics issues in misappropriation of trade secrets and forensic protocols; and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
