Greencastle Associates Consulting LLC is distinguished as a "Best Firm to Work For" due to its exceptional company culture, supportive leadership and commitment to employee development. The firm's culture is highly praised for promoting values such as "Adult Rules," teamwork, and camaraderie, creating an inclusive and positive atmosphere where employees feel valued and supported. Additionally, the firm places a strong emphasis on work-life balance, allowing employees to manage their professional and personal lives effectively. CMAG: Are there any specific programs or initiatives that contributed to you being included as a Best Firm?

I'd like to highlight our approach to balancing work and personal aspects of our consultant's lives. They all served in the military and spent months away from their families. In most consulting firms, travel is a necessity and very prevalent. We do our best to make sure our team members are home every night without sacrificing the great benefits and perks that come along with a successful consulting company. The company covers 100% of health care premiums, we do a 3% contribution to their 401(k), we have unlimited discretionary paid time off, we pay for certifications and training, every Friday we provide lunch. Once a year, we fly their entire family to Philly for a family picnic, then again with just the spouse for a holiday party.

There is plenty more, so the overall program isn't one thing – it is the culmination of hundreds of small things that make us a great place to work. I guess it comes down to hiring adults and treating them like adults.

CMAG: In describing your firm, what would you say sets it apart from other consulting firms?

The most obvious answer is that we are entirely composed of military veterans. My consultants, marketing team, HQ staff, everyone is a veteran. While that fact really doesn't get us new business, it is the difference that makes the difference in our strategy execution work. The projects and initiatives we see on a daily basis have complexity and ambiguity that our team has seen multiple times serving their country. The stress and high stakes nature of complex military operations prepared our team for nearly every situation that might encounter with a client. They are calm, professional and interested in the work of our clients. We care about the results and often are emotionally invested in the success of the entire team.

CMAG: Where your workforce is concerned, what would you say your priorities look like for the upcoming year and beyond?

Our priorities never change: Focus on strong relationships, high quality work and getting things done. We plan to continue to expand into other utilities in 2025 while growing locally into other industries that are complimentary to our current approach.

CMAG: What opportunities do you see as the most promising?

For 2025, we can capitalize on several promising growth areas. Renewable energy integration will be paramount as utilities seek to incorporate sustainable sources like solar and wind, requiring expertise in project management and technology integration. Grid modernization efforts will also present opportunities, with a focus on deploying smart grid technologies and enhancing grid resilience. The rise of electric vehicles necessitates the expansion of charging infrastructure, an area where strategy firms can provide significant guidance. Additionally, the increasing importance of energy storage to balance renewable intermittency invites strategic input on technology integration. Regulatory changes will demand advisory services in compliance and policy, while digital transformation initiatives will require support in implementing advanced analytics, AI and cybersecurity measures. The trend toward decentralized energy systems and microgrids will offer new business models and consumer engagement strategies, requiring innovative strategic approaches. Furthermore, as utilities navigate mergers and acquisitions, we can assist in due diligence and integration strategies. Lastly, growing emphasis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors will necessitate strategies for sustainability initiatives, helping utilities to align with evolving corporate and societal expectations.

CMAG: What market forces do you see as the most challenging?

The general economic environment is proving to be a headwind to our progress. Clients are doing with less services and being more selective. It feels like everyone is waiting for the political environment to settle down and get past this election.

CMAG: What impact do you think Best Firm to Work For honors will have on your employees? The firm overall? Clients?

We are the nation's largest all veteran company and are very proud of that. However, we want to be the nation's premier strategic execution firm that happens to be all veteran. The honors will help us attract great talent, help us establish a great brand in the consulting space and solidify the belief that we are on the right path.
