What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?
When I moved from the Epic world to consulting at the beginning of my 30′s, I did so for work-life balance reasons. I'm very proud of the balance I've been able to cultivate over the past decade – work is hard & intense, and when I'm working, I'm very much "on" – present, attentive & engaged, but I do have the ability to turn it off & not make work my whole identity or life.
What's the best advice—consulting or otherwise—you've ever received?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." I try to embody & model that for my mentees at my customer sites – efficient working, solid communication, engagement, interest & attitude.
What advice would you give to a female consultant just beginning her career?
I would advise her to find someone to shadow – everyone works a bit differently, so you can pick & choose what works for you from someone else's work style. Keep your eyes open & look for the ways that you can make your customers' lives easier – that's why people bring on consultants. You want to leave them better than you found them.
What does this recognition mean to you?
This is a huge honor to just be nominated – I've worked in the industry for two decades now (woof! :)), and it's so cool to see female-specific awards and people taking the time to single out women at the top of their fields. I see some very accomplished women when looking at the nominees/winners & I'm grateful to be even thought of in that capacity.
