CMAG: How would you say you've managed to stay among the industry's Best Firms to Work For amid these unprecedented times?

We have a disciplined team of consultants that have remained focused on getting stuff done for our clients. They love working for a company that has a clear direction, transparent leadership and adult rules in the workplace. We don't have a lot of rules or policies – we treat our team as adults and they act accordingly. When that happens, the team is able to be creative, find innovative solutions and great real results for our clients. Our team is experienced in working in environments that are challenging and ever-changing. The recent pandemic and associated events presented new opportunities for us to grow professionally and deliver results to our clients.

CMAG: Were there any specific programs or initiatives (internal or external) that contributed to you being a Best Firm to Work For?

I think our core values and behaviors are the main reason we have a wonderful team. We are highly trained implementation management consultants and hold each other accountable for the work we do. We are quick to identify issues and put measures in place to help that employee get better. Another factor that makes us a great place to work is the consistency in the application of the behaviors and associated policies. A lot of companies have similar programs as us, but I think the long-term consistency of these programs is what makes them stand above the rest.

CMAG: What's unique about your firm? What sets it apart?

Our entire team is comprised of military veterans. Everyone onboard has served in the military and that is a special bond that creates a strong team. We leverage the veterans' ability to walk into ambiguous situations and immediately they begin to create structure from chaos. Additionally, the veteran background has been instrumental in their ability to talk with anyone, at all levels of an organization. Our consultants have often been in leadership positions where people's lives were on the line, most have lost people in combat and others have leadership experience that is hard to replicate in the civilian world. The veteran background is the difference that makes a difference with our clients.

CMAG: What's the top priority over the next 6 to 12 months?

Priority is to find high quality clients that need help implementing critical initiatives that only have one chance of success. We have been successful in finding 2 – 3 new clients each year that understand the way we help and can take advantage of our approach. This is been instrumental in our growth, earning this award as well as others.

CMAG: When you look at the remainder of this year and 2024, what excites you? What opportunities do you see in your markets?

There is tremendous opportunity in emerging technology. We are standing up a internal group of professionals to see how we can exploit new technology to make us better so we can better serve our clients. By intentionally creating a capable group to research, evaluate and implement new tools, we will prevent ourselves from becoming the typewriter or VHS tape.

CMAG: What impact do you think being a Best Firm to Work For has on the firm? Employees? Clients?

Earning this award is awesome for a lot of reasons. The award helps us stand out from the crowded field of consulting firms. Additionally, it help in recruiting and retention. The clients like to see us win too. They know we couldn't have gotten to this level without them and they celebrate in our achievements too.
