CMAG: How would you say you've managed to stay among the industry's Best Firms to Work For amid these unprecedented times?

We have stayed committed to hiring, promoting and investing in our people through all the zigs and zags of recent years, whether that was COVID or other market dislocations. This commitment enables us to deliver increasingly powerful results while advancing the growth, professional development and ambitions of our talented people who choose to build their careers with us. And that allows us to deliver on major assignments and make a difference for our clients.

CMAG: Were there any specific programs or initiatives (internal or external) that contributed to you being a Best Firm to Work For?

Absolutely. The goal of continuing to hire great talent, no matter the economic conditions, and supporting their growth requires very specific initiatives targeted at developing and promoting our people. In 2022, we completed more than 79,000 employee training hours. In March 2023, we promoted more than 1,500 people — a record number. We have invested in elevating the representation of women at our firm through proactive recruitment and intentional career progression tracks. We have bolstered our early talent pipelines through enhancing our campus recruiting programs. This commitment to our people and their professional growth has helped us build a company that great talent wants to be a part of, which in turn enables us to support clients on their most complex challenges and opportunities.

CMAG: What's unique about your firm? What sets it apart?

I believe we are involved in more of the transformative market-value-affecting decisions and matters that companies face than almost any other consulting firm in the world. Our firm focuses on crises and moments of truth that define a company's future, and there are very few companies these days that can afford to stand still in the face of disruption. The depth and breadth of our services enable us to be relevant to companies at their most critical times.

CMAG: What's the top priority over the next 6 to 12 months?

Our top priority will be continuing to grow and continuing to attract great people and support them no matter the economic conditions. Particularly, in September, we again will welcome more than 300 campus hires, which continues our commitment to the core source of organic growth — hiring great people at junior levels and developing them. To me, that commitment has allowed this company to rediscover the most important formula in professional services. We focus every day on making sure our great people feel supported personally and professionally to provide the most valuable work for clients. And if you're willing to invest behind them in significant areas of client need, as a firm you grow, you prosper, you attract other great people and you get into the virtuous loop of professional services.

CMAG: When you look at the remainder of this year and 2024, what excites you? What opportunities do you see in your markets?

We are very bullish about the future — about our businesses, sub-businesses and geographies, but also about the future of so many of our individual leaders and our teams. Given the amount of change in the world and our position on helping companies in major periods of crisis and dislocation, we believe we can continue to build businesses that are global, diverse, but most important, powerful.

CMAG: What impact do you think being a Best Firm to Work For has on the firm? Employees? Clients?

I believe external recognition helps validate and reinforce the pride our team has in driving the work and making a difference for our clients. We always take a moment to celebrate that and think boldly about the future of our firm and the opportunities it will provide for our people.
