Matt Hutchins is a Partner at Capco, and the Global and UK Head of Insurance. He is a member of the Capco Leadership Team, based out of Capco's London office.
Matt joined Capco in January 2020 with a remit to expand the firm's insurance business, which has subsequently seen tremendous growth in the past three years.
With 30 years of consulting and industry experience across the insurance and banking sectors, Matt operates as both a practitioner and advisor at many clients while also leading Capco's relationship at a number of global insurers.
His particular focus areas for client projects include design and delivery work for digital transformation, operations transformation, new business models and technology ecosystems, next generation data platforms, and regulatory programs.
Prior to Capco, Matt worked at HSBC as Group Head of Transformation leading change for the bank globally across its businesses and functions. He also worked at Accenture across a number of roles, including managing partner for Insurance UK/Ireland and client partner for a number of Accenture's key insurance and banking clients.
Matt is married with two children and lives in Guildford, England. He holds a degree in Natural Sciences from Downing College at the University of Cambridge.
What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?
On a professional basis, my greatest achievement is building strong performing teams that can engage with a problem of any scale, design impactful and innovative solutions, and then see them through to successful implementation.
What advice would you give a professional just beginning a career in consulting?
Be curious, work hard and form your own points of view over time. Learn from colleagues around you – and take the rough with the smooth.
What have you loved most about your consulting career?
The opportunity to work across great firms with great people across the industry, helping to solve diverse business problems and implement transformational solutions that deliver truly tangible benefits to clients and their customers.
What's the best advice—personal or professional—you've ever received
As a consultant, you are only ever as good as your last project.
What does being honored as a Global Leader mean to you?
Being recognized as a Global Leader in Consulting means a great deal to me and to Capco as we continue to build our brand across insurance markets globally. It signals to our clients and our people that Capco is on the right path, and that we're a great organization to work with and for. The insurance sector is going through unprecedented levels of change driven by the macroeconomic environment, rapidly changing customer demands, the changing nature of insurance risk, the need for digitized business models, changing profit profiles and the increasing impact of regulation. Our clients value advice, problem-solving and execution skills and capacity to transform themselves more than ever. I aspire for Capco to be the challenger consulting firm for insurers, which involves Capco bringing specialist, practical, hands-on support to help our clients reimagine insurance.
In order to do this, Capco must continue to actively listen to our clients, understand the nuances of the insurance industry globally, innovate and challenge the status quo, and execute well. We will continue to bring our digital, data, engineering and industry experience to bear in partnership with our clients to help them deliver improved business outcomes. I want to provide the opportunity for my Capco and client colleagues to work on the most interesting programs of change being executed across the industry. This will help our clients solve problems and excel, and help my colleagues develop their professional careers.
