What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?

My greatest professional achievement is the relationships I've built as an advisor to executives and boards and working with them to create highly successful exits that benefited not just the owners but the clients and the employees. My greatest personal achievement is raising two great kids. One has gone into the marketing field and one has gone into social work helping those with abuse problems (drugs, alcohol, relationships, etc.) helping those in need in their darkest times.

What advice would you give a professional just beginning a career in consulting?

To be a great consultant, you need to always be learning, keep your brain open to new ideas and you need to recognize that it's hard work. There are no shortcuts.

What have you loved most about your consulting career?

By far and above, it's the people I've met, and the hundreds of companies and thousands of executives that I've worked with.

What's the best advice—personal or professional—you've ever received?

Go in assuming that there are always smarter people than you, surround yourself with them and know that you can get to the same place by working harder.

What does being honored as a Global Leader mean to you?

It means that I'm doing the right things for my clients. On a personal level, it means that I have learned continuously and enabled myself to always be relevant.
