Rising Stars of the Profession: Mark Boheim

Mark Boheim is a director with Protiviti's Business Performance Improvement practice and the manufacturing and distribution industry lead for the firm's St. Louis office. With more than 12 years of experience, he specializes in helping manufacturing companies navigate regulatory, infrastructure and reporting challenges. He also provides his clients with technical accounting, financial reporting and internal audit support based upon their specific needs.

Mark currently sits on the board of the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. He is a CPA and holds a master's degree in accounting from Saint Louis University.

What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?

My greatest professional achievement has been assisting companies through their public company readiness journey. These engagements are typically multi-faceted and require coordination across multiple stakeholders to solve complex problems and ensure all project milestones are met. They require a tremendous amount of team effort, but the result in helping a company achieve a major milestone is very rewarding.

What advice would you give a professional just beginning a career in consulting?

Always seek to learn and take advantage of every opportunity that is given to you. There are opportunities to learn on every single engagement and making the most of those opportunities will set you apart later in your career.

What have you loved most about your consulting career?

I absolutely love the people that I work with (both at Protiviti and my clients). Additionally, I love delivering real value to my clients by helping to address their unique, complex problems and designing solutions to improve their processes and organizations.

What's the best advice—personal or professional—you've ever received?

Your career is what you make of it. I was told early in my career that the only person ultimately responsible for my career is me. It's important to put yourself in the driver's seat to explore and make the most of the opportunities in front of you.

What does being honored as a Rising Star mean to you?

I am very excited and humbled to be honored as a Rising Star. It is wonderful to be recognized for my work in consulting thus far, and it's validation to continue working hard as I look forward in my career.
