Margarita Lam has been a trusted advisor to senior management in the media & entertainment industry for more than 25 years. As Client Partner, and Head of Point B's media, entertainment and gaming practice, she advises and guides a portfolio ranging from streaming and digital launches, process transformation, MarTech, post-merger integration, and technology implementations for Fortune 100 companies. She's had a front seat at the strategic table for four of the largest mergers and acquisitions in the industry, helping connect the dots across industries and organizations on synergies ($100M+), process efficiencies, and accelerating content value creation
Prior to Point B, she led NBCUniversal's consulting group as Vice President. Lam advised on strategic initiatives supporting its $1B shared services technology group including developing a global innovation strategy and digital distribution expansion opportunities. At Time Warner, she served as Chief of Staff to Time Inc.'s CEO overseeing a $4B portfolio and developing strategies for digital launches. She led operations for People magazine and People En Espanol, driving to profitability post-launch
Previously at Booz & Co, Margarita advised Fortune 100 media companies and developed a strategy to increase ad revenues by $30M for leading cable networks and streamlined processes to save $50M+ post-merger integration. She began her career at Deloitte Consulting, focusing on business restructuring and process re-engineering.
Margarita is a leader in Point B's executive diversity mentorship program, actively volunteers at her local elementary school and little league, and donates to help homelessness in Southern California, and is involved in the Boy Scouts of America program with her son.
She graduated from Harvard University and holds an M.B.A from Columbia Business School.
What do you consider your greatest personal or professional achievement?
"My greatest professional achievement is advising and delivering on multi-million in synergies, cost savings, and business transformation for some of the largest mergers and acquisitions in Media & Entertainment including Seagrams of Universal, AOL of Time Warner, Comcast of NBCUniversal and other Fortune 100 $ E companies. Most recently, I'm most proud of building Point B's Media, Entertainment and Gaming Practice to support increasingly more complex and mission-critical initiatives centered around streaming launches, MarTech efficiencies, and process transformation."
What advice would you give to a professional just beginning a career in consulting?
"Be curious and empathetic. As management consultants, we are problem solvers and partner with clients to navigate some of their most transformative initiatives and high stakes crossroads as the industry is changing faster than the speed of light. Being curious and empathetic broadens how a consultant gathers, analyzes information, and delivers on more strategic and pragmatic recommendations to solve business challenges."
What have you loved most about your consulting career?
"I've loved the diversity of consulting. It's been amazing bearing witness both as a consultant and industry veteran to four of the industry's biggest mergers and acquisitions and coaching and developing teams to support the client's transformations."
What's the best advice—personal or professional—you've ever received?
"The best leaders set the vision, empower their people, clear roadblocks and get out of the way."
